The Glenrowan Kelly Tigers Football Netball Club has gone into recess for 12 months.
Despite exploring several options, the Tigers have succumbed to a severe player shortage and financial pressures.
Volunteer numbers have also dropped off.
Glenrowan has informed the Ovens and King and AFL North East Border of its decision and plan to keep the governing bodies informed of its progress as it attempts to return from the footballing wilderness in 2021.
The club's situation reached crisis point late in the home and away series when it forfeited senior and reserve grade matches to King Valley.
The Tigers had just 14 players available.
It has been a dramatic fall from grace for the Tigers who won the premiership in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The decision is set to send rival clubs into a recruiting frenzy for star big-man Karl Norman who has dominated the league in recent years.
