The Inland Championship Orchid Show 2019 will be held at Mirambeena Community Centre, 19 Martha Mews, on Saturday, October 12, 9am to 5pm, and Sunday, October 13, 9am to 4pm.
Organised by Albury-Wodonga and District Orchid Club, the annual event has been held since 1983.
As well as the competition, the show will feature floral art, arts and craft, needle work, plant sales, potting demonstrations and light refreshments.
About 50 exhibitors will be hoping to present the perfect orchid for the judging panel.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A club spokeswoman said orchids came in many varieties and were not necessarily hard to grow.
"You don't have to give them attention 24/7 or anything like that," she said.
"You've got to keep feeding them and watering like any plant.
"A lot of people try to turn their flowering spikes around so they'll face the judges, there's little tricks doing that sort of thing to have them presented really well."
October is usually the middle of the orchid season, but dry conditions had affected some of this year's flowers.
Led by president Jock Campbell, Albury-Wodonga and District Orchid Club has about 80 members from Yenda, Griffith, Wangaratta, Yarrawonga, Shepparton and the Border.
"A lot of growers like to be members of more than one club and they travel around and show their plants at the meetings," the spokeswoman said.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month except January at Murray Valley Centre, Pearce Street, Wodonga, from 7pm.
