Woomera recorded 40.6, easily a record high for this time of year.
Ceduna reported 41.3 degrees, Forrest 41.3, Mildura 35.9 and Wilcannia 39.5, while Bourke recorded 40.1 - the hottest temperature for early October since 40.6 in 1915.
Most places around these towns have recorded their highest temperature for early October since either 2015 or 1988.
Both those years led to very high temperatures in our regions at the end of October or beginning of November.
Then came much needed heavy rain the first week of November.
Bourke has now had 90 days without any rain, the longest spell since 125 days back in 1892.
Back in 1876, Bourke had 80 days without any rain during the spring season.
In January 1877, there was an all-time record high temperature of 51.8 degrees celsius.
In Melbourne, a record-high December temp of 43.7 was recorded on December 15, 1876.
This old record remains unchallenged for Melbourne and also for Bourke.
Moree has had no rain for 88 successive days and the nearby town of Mungindi has completely run out of water and the Boomi River has almost run dry.
There were several build-ups of large convective cumulus clouds, but very light rainfalls occurred. High level cirrus clouds were generally moving from the west-south west. This is absolutely no good for a rain event to happen in the near future.
The recent hot spell has been due to a multi-centred heat low covering most of the continent.
One centre of low had a warm front which moved east-south east and gave an influx of hot air across our region.

There is no escape from the coming hotter than normal summer season in our regions.
