Both novice and experienced lovers of plants, trees and flowers will delight in the inaugural Gardenesque festival. There will be floral displays, spring blooms and interactive garden spaces people can touch, smell, eat and explore. Gardening Australia presenter Jerry Coleby-Williams will share his knowledge on sustainable gardening. Children's activities include making windmill flowers, scarecrows and dancing while food, wine and live music are also available.

Inland Championship Orchid Show, Mirambeena Community Centre, Saturday, October 12, 9am to 5pm, Sunday, October 13, 9am to 4pm, $5 entry, under-15 free
In a weekend to suit botanists, Albury-Wodonga and District Orchid Club will host its annual show in Lavington. The club expects about 50 exhibitors to present about 700 plants for judging. As well as the competition, the show will feature floral art, arts and craft, needle work, plant sales, potting demonstrations and light refreshments.

Fighting Fund
Daniher's Drive, Wangaratta, Saturday, October 12
The fifth annual road trip to raise money for Fight MND arrives in Wangaratta on Friday and leaves Saturday morning for stage three of the four-day event. Thirteen new teams join the 20 groups returning for their fifth drive, which started in Werribee on Thursday and ends in Mount Eliza after touring around central Victoria. Since 2014, Fight MND has invested nearly $38 million into motor neurone disease medical research, including funding for 10 clinical trials.
Animal Show
Wangaratta Show, Evans Street, Saturday, October 12, 9am to 4pm
While in Wangaratta, why not visit the second day of the city's 155th annual show? Among Saturday's competitions will be cattle, alpaca, sheep, horses, junior showgirl and pet parade. Pavilion and fleece exhibits, an animal nursery and Eroni's Circus will also entertain.
Monthly Market
Howlong Half Acre Market, Hawkins Street, Saturday, October 12, 9am to 1pm
October's market will feature jams and preserves, cards, gourmet chocolates, crotchet items, designer handbags, scarves and garden sculpture. Across the road will be Hearts of Howlong's sausage sizzle to raise money for Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre's Sunshine Walk.
Tackling League
Albury Thunder Women's Nines Carnival, Greenfield Park, Saturday, October 12, Sunday, October 13, from 9am
The third edition of the full contact competition has attracted a record 20 teams across open, under-16 and under-14 divisions. Clubs include the host as well as Wodonga Storm, Wagga Kangaroos, Tumut, Yenda and Darlington Point-Coleambally.
