A young canoe racer from the Border will sit his HSC Exams overseas just hours before competing for a world championship.
Joe Burton, a member of Albury's Mitta Mitta Canoe Club, is set to compete for Australia at the World Canoe Marathon Championships in Shaoxing, China, on Thursday and Friday.
The teenage sensation has been selected to compete in both the singles and doubles events.
ALSO IN SPORT:
It will be a big two days for the Xavier High School student as he is also required to sit his HSC English exams in China prior to competing each day.
After a major setback in 2018 where he lacerated his achilles tendon, Burton has worked hard to return to peak fitness.
Since then he has won both the NSW and Victorian state championships, the national and Oceania championships and placed seventh at the World Cup in Norway in the junior men's events.
Burton has been training six days a week for the past four years under the guidance of Matt Flower as well as doing strength and conditioning sessions with John Baker.
