Splinter, which has been labelled a "psychological thriller", stars Lucy Bell and Simon Gleeson who said it was a "happy coming together" for the production at the Butter Factory Theatre.

Ms Bell's sister Hilary wrote the play and said she had "always loved the play".

"I got a lovely phone call one day and said they are doing it again and if I wanted to be involved. I always loved the play so am pretty thrilled to be working on it," she said.

"I had never met Simon but we had both worked with Lee the director before so it is really nice for all of us."

For Mr Gleeson, who grew up at The Rock, coming back to the Murray River "felt like home".

"Every time I am in the Riverina or near the river it feels like home so it is nice to be back.

"Even the theatre has changed dramatically since I have been back so it is pretty special," he said.

Splinter begins with a couple getting their five-year-old daughter back who has been missing for nine months.

"It is this incredibly happy beginning but from that moment on things get more complicated and certain doubts are raised in both their minds and the play gets very twisted and dark," Ms Bell said.

"It is the type of story you get slowly drawn in to and then there is a certain point where audiences have had to make a kind of decision about who they are going to believe and it has been fascinating at the end of each performance that we have had so many different opinions from the audience."
