The once thriving regional tourist town is "dying".
And after a long bout of chemotherapy to treat breast cancer Caroline returns home to a town where the lake is bone dry and the holiday-makers are long gone.
A perfect destination for a family reunion.
The critically acclaimed Sunset Strip by Suzie Miller is coming to the Border next month and promises to "powerfully affirm the role of family in those 'why me' moments".
The play is the final production of the 2019 HotHouse Theatre season and will take to the Butter Factory Theatre on November 5 to 9.
From award-winning playwright Suzie Miller comes this Australian dramatic comedy about love, family dysfunction and "making the best of lousy situations".
Eloise Snape, Emma Jackson, Lex Marinos and Simon Lyndon star in the production as a family with plenty of problems and plenty of love.
Marinos is originally from Wagga and has a long-standing relationship with HotHouse Theatre.
The play follows Caroline's journey home where younger sister, the ever-optimistic Phoebe (Emma Jackson), remains doggedly hopeful things will get better in their home town.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Between a stint in rehab, caring for her dementia-suffering father (Lex Marinos) who has a penchant for training goldfish, and losing her kids temporarily to DOCS, Phoebe has finally managed to find love and security in Teddy (Simon Lyndon), a local man with big demons and a bigger heart.
And now that Caroline is back, Phoebe is blindly determined to prove that life can be as fabulous as it once was.
"It is such a pleasure to welcome Lex Marinos back to the Hume Bank Butter Factory Theatre stage in this beautiful production," HotHouse Theatre artistic director Karla Conway said.
"Lex has a long legacy with HotHouse Theatre being one of the original members of the founding Artistic Directorate."
As the play is the last on the 2019 calendar, HotHouse Theatre will put on a post-opening night reception on Tuesday to celebrate the season.
Friday night's performance also features an opportunity to meet the artists.
La Maison is also partnering with the theatre for the dinner and show package with a price tag of $80.
General tickets start at $30.
