The opening 50-over round had it all with at least one report as tensions boiled over, while the windy weather and hail played havoc in the rain-shortened match.

But Booth's mankad, where a batsman is run out backing up at the non-striker's end, was the talking point.

East Albury's Ryan de Vries was bowling the second last over with Booth leaving his crease before the ball was bowled as the Eagles strived desperately for the winning runs.

The quick, as he's entitled to do, broke the wicket with Booth out of his crease to leave the Eagles at 8-187, chasing the visitors' 7-196.

"It's pretty sour, the tension was pretty high towards the end and given how close it was, there was a bit of talk on the sideline," Belvoir captain Nat Sariman said.

The home team needed nine from the final over, with Cam McCormack and Casey George finishing at 9-193.

Quite remarkably for the second successive week, McCormack needed four runs from Cameron White's final ball, but he was unable to hit the boundary.

Belvoir also lost to Wodonga last week by three runs in the T20 game.

The controversy overshadowed a cracking game.

The Crows were 4-73, but middle order batsmen Dean White (38), Brent de Vries (33) and Sean Barrett (33 from 18 balls) pushed the target towards 200 in the 43-over game.

In reply, Belvoir opener Drew Cameron was superb with 91.

"Drew batted exceptionally well, he really anchored the innings, he's a barometer for us," Sariman said.

The Eagles worked their way to 5-174 to steal the initiative, but the loss of Cameron turned the match.

Angus Sinclair (26) fell to make it 7-178 with Booth and Brad Freake both falling on 187.

"The conditions were really tough," Sariman said.

"I don't think I've ever played in a game where the weather has had such an impact, not that that's an excuse."

East's West Indian import Romario Greaves finished with 3-21 from nine overs, but he also ran out Sariman (13) with a fine piece of fielding at mid-on as the key batsman set off for a run.

Given the explosive finish, there's expected to be more news out of the match in a lively start to the 50-over season.
