Women of Courage comprises four weekly sessions at Wodonga's Felltimber Community Centre to be followed by a public event, Stronger Together, on November 22.
Facilitator Kylie Bonnor said statistics indicated women often returned to a violent partner or entered into another destructive relationship.
The course promoted education around the knowledge, skills and confidence that could stop this happening.

"It's not just a choice," she said.
"If it was a choice, it would have already have been made by people, it's not working."
Women of Courage would focus on "providing activities and action so that they can feel confident and empowered so they actually go out there and can change the future".
It is suitable for women who have experienced domestic and family violence but are not currently in crisis.
Inquiries about the program have come from Adelaide and Queensland, with future online options being considered.
