Stuart Nichols, 15, hopes to one day start a Bachelor of Paramedicine degree with the goal of becoming a paramedic.
"It's one of the jobs where you're dedicated to helping people, it's one that makes a difference," he said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile he combined his home schooling with a Certificate III in Business through TAFE Digital.
Now he has begun a Certificate IV in Medical Practice Assisting, also with an eye towards his desired university course.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A St John Ambulance volunteer since February, Stuart has helped provide first aid support at almost 30 events so far, with another 10 coming up.
"Mainly it's sport, high risk events for injuries really," he said.
"Also a few events where there's a large amount of people, for example Henty Field Days."
The teenager said his business certificate taught him skills relevant to a number of fields and the TAFE Digital staff had been very supportive.
Having all the resources online and accessible proved an easier option for him and his family than travelling into Albury every day.
"Because I am home-schooled, I had the flexibility to complete tasks and assignments efficiently and effectively, without having to wait for certain lectures or sessions," he said.
"Completing the Certificate III was one of my biggest study achievements."
