Months of hard work will come to a head for Victorian students on Wednesday as they sit down for the 2019 VCE English exam, which marks the beginning of the exam period for the majority of pupils.

Catholic College Wodonga students Izak Lindsay, 18, Tory Wallace, 17, Darcy Millett, 17, and Maryam Almufti, 17, said nerves and excitement were high among the students.
"English has to be in your top four so it could be the most important exam for a lot of people," Miss Millett said.
"It's nerve-racking."
For some students like Mr Wallace who has six exams in eight days, Wednesday marks the start of a sprint.
While Mr Lindsay's exam period will be more like a marathon.

Mr Lindsay said he doesn't mind what score he gets as long as he can study mathematics at university.
Mr Wallace said he had been studying every day in the lead up to the exams.
"I'm super excited to get it over and done with," he said.
"We have a book called Ransom, and I'm definitely keen to see the back of that one."
Mr Wallace hopes to get a score over 70.
Miss Almufti hopes to get into a dentistry course at Latrobe and said the best piece of advice she'd received was to "just write and keep writing" in the exam.
Miss Millett is hoping her ATAR will allow her to study engineering.
The 2018 dux of Galen College, Wangaratta, Jacob Motha said it was important students didn't try to cram too much study in the night before the exam.
Mr Motha, who got an ATAR of 90.75, is currently studying veterinary science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga.
"I think the best thing people can do is be confident in themselves and to avoid stressing too much," he said.
"Try to be calm and collected.
"It's best not to go too heavy the night before, revise, but get a good night's sleep.
"It's good to have a quick revision of things prior to going in but avoid too much heavy content."
Mr Motha said the techniques he learnt in the lead up to his VCE exams have helped him study at university.
He said the best advice he received was to not stress too much.
"Relax a little bit, don't overdo it and exhaust yourself.," he said.
