Ian Jackson, Avni Selmen, Garrie Scott and Sedat Ciftci drove from Shepparton to Wangaratta on April 20, where the assault occurred in the open on Larkins Street at 2.20pm.
They appeared in Wangaratta Magistrates Court on Wednesday where Jackson, Selmen and Scott all pleaded guilty to intentionally causing injury and attempted kidnapping.
Ciftci's defence solicitor Ian Michaelson said his client had offered to plead guilty to intentionally causing injury and possessing the 72 steroid pills found in the car when the offenders were arrested, but not guilty to five other charges - he remains on bail.
Detective Senior Constable Neal Thompson said the men lured the victim to Larkins Street where they "ambushed" the man and punched, kicked and stomped on his head until he lost consciousness.
They dragged him to their car, but he got away.
The victim spent five days in hospital with fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, broken nose and cuts and bruises to his head and body.
"The victim is concerned with all four should they be granted bail and has fears of violence," Detective Thompson said.
Selmen's plea was adjourned until January next year, while Scott and Jackson will apply to have their cases heard in the Koori Court.
MORE NEWS FROM COURT:
Scott applied for bail in court on Wednesday, where his barrister Jacob Kantor said there were exceptional circumstances because his client has been accepted to a drug rehabilitation centre in Shepparton.
Mr Kantor said the victim of the assault "has a reputation for violence" and "owed a substantial amount of money" to Jackson.
He said Scott, a father of three young children, played a lesser role in the assault than two of the other accused and was seen throwing only two punches.
Magistrate Peter Dunn adjourned the bail application until Thursday, saying he wanted to hear evidence from staff at the rehabilitation centre.
