Police were called to Corner Cafe Co on High Street about 1pm on Sunday following the incident.

Owner Tarshar Baker said the man had been standing over staff, screaming and yelling, before throwing the glass.

Despite his actions - which were caught on security camera - the man later returned and offered to clean up the damage.

Ms Baker said the woman hit by the glass had likely avoided injury due to wearing jeans, which prevented her leg being cut.

"We were all in shock," she said.

"I was dealing with the police and it wasn't until after we closed the store that a staff member mentioned the glass had hit a customer.

"We had to close early."

Ms Baker said the business employed many young staff.

While such an extreme reaction was uncommon, Ms Baker said people in hospitality were regularly abused by members of the public.

She said her staff had a right to feel safe at work, and to avoid being abused.

"I was in finance for 12 years and I've now come back to hospitality," she said.

"There has always been abuse, but we're finding people are a lot more aggressive now.

"People think they're entitled to a refund because they don't like the look of something, or something doesn't meet their standards.

"We had someone abusing staff, saying they wanted a refund after they'd eaten their food, and we said no.

"They then gave us a bad review on Google, saying that the place was terrible.

"So they not only abused us at the front of house, abused us inside, they then further damaged the business by leaving a bad review."

Ms Baker said she was speaking out in the hopes people will better treat those in the industry.

"You probably get someone who will abuse you once a week," she said.

"You've really got to have a thick skin."

The vast majority of customers were kind and understanding, she said.

Ms Baker thanked Wodonga police officers for their assistance on the day and dropped off coffee vouchers at the station.
