One way to accrue some of these benefits without having to resort to a gym membership or early morning jogs, is to check what's on offer locally when it comes to spending time in the great outdoors.
As president of the Border Bushwalking Club I am somewhat biased, but a suggestion is to take a peek at our website where upcoming activities are listed.
Despite our moniker, we offer more than just bushwalking, and welcome one and all to come along and take part in our activities.
A quick look at the club's events page reveals a smorgasbord of activities over coming months.
If you don't fancy traipsing around in the bush, there are alternatives that might pique your interest.
There's after-work paddling on the Mighty Murray; a cruisy bike ride on the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail; overnight hikes from an easy couple of hours on the High Plains to more challenging overnight hikes in the wilds of Mount Buffalo or Mount Kosciuszko National Park - even a three-day hike to climb Mount Jagungal. If all that leaves you feeling breathless, you can choose one of our easier day walks.
The bottom line is you need to get off your bum, grab some gear and get out there where the air is fresh and clean and nature waits.
