But Benalla struck back through Kyle Pugh defeating Mason Bayliss 24-22 and Chris Randall accounting for Josh Rudd 22-20.
Paul Davies and Chris Cooney's epic clash ended in a 22-all draw.
Benalla will face another tough assignment when it does battle with pennant favourite Wangaratta at Benalla this weekend.
In a tight round of matches, bottom-placed Rutherglen defeated Yarrawonga 89-81.
Kiewa edged out Corowa Civic 90-85 and undefeated Wangaratta upstaged YMGCR 109-84.
The ladder after six rounds is: Wangaratta 82, Wodonga 71, Benalla 56, YMGCR 35, Kiewa 32, Corowa Civic 31, Yarrawonga 28, Rutherglen 25.
