Joshua and Joel Clavell, who were shot by Victorian police officers at Barnawartha in June, yesterday pleaded guilty to charges including driving at an emergency worker, assaulting emergency workers, and making threats to kill.
The pair were flanked by police officers as they entered the Wodonga Magistrates Court, with a total of 11officers present for their appearance.
Both men appeared to be sedate in the courtroom and were softly spoken as they entered pleas of guilty.
The pair were the only people in the court who didn't stand for magistrate Stella Stuthridge as she entered.
Joel, who was 19 at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to seven charges.
Older brother Joshua, who appeared in court with a foot-long beard, pleaded guilty to two charges.
Neither looked at the rows of Victoria Police members in the room, which included those involved in the shooting, and instead looked ahead or at the floor.
PREVIOUSLY:
An exact summary of what occurred is still being finalised.
Neither man applied for bail.
The pair will return to Wodonga County Court on February 3.
The brothers had been due to face a committal to determine if there was enough evidence for them to stand trial.
They instead pleaded guilty to nine offences with the remaining charges dropped by the prosecution.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The incident at Richardsons Bend, where the pair had been staying at a camping spot for about a month, was caught by body cameras worn by the officers called to the job.
Joshua Clavell drove a car in the vicinity of an officer, exposing them to danger, before assaulting an officer.
A police car was rammed during the incident, and a bullet hole could be seen in the side of the car.
The younger man admitted to four counts of assaulting police and three counts of making threats to kill.
Both men were shot after confronting the officers while armed with a knife and tomahawk.
One brother was shot soon after leaving their car, while the other one was shot after negotiations, capsicum spray and a Taser hit failed to subdue him.
Assistant Commissioner counter terrorism Ross Guenther in June said Joshua had been under the scrutiny of counter terrorism police.
The pair both had serious injuries with one in hospital in Melbourne and the other in Albury.
They wore matching prison clothes during yesterday's court appearance.
Both had beards, but the older brother's facial hair was far more developed.
They both gave the same answer when separately asked how they wanted to plead, of "ah, guilty".
The pair's father, Rodney Clavell, took four people hostage at an Adelaide brothel in 2014, leading to a 12-hour siege which ended when he took his life.
While the case will return to the Wodonga County Court on February 3, the sentencing is unlikely to proceed on that date.
