NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Stewart Alexander said the fire started at 6.45pm Tuesday on the land between the exit ramp and the freeway.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It caused a lot of smoke and it was lucky there was no accidents as a result of that thick smoke," he said.
"The exit was closed for about an hour and it is expected it started by someone flicking a cigarette butt out the window.
"Something so simple could have been very dangerous.
"Firefighters from the RFS and NSW Fire and Rescue were quickly onto the fire and police quickly arrived to divert traffic."
