Twelve new 13cabs taxis will start operating on both sides of the Border on November 28 with plans to have eight more on the road by the new year.
The 13cabs taxi network is the largest in the country and spans the entire east coast employing more than 40,000 drivers. It is expected to add 20 more in Albury-Wodonga by Christmas and up to 50 by Easter.
Victorian general manager Greg Hardeman said the company decided it was time to tap into growing regional areas and 13cabs would "remove the cross-border challenges when ordering a taxi".
"We will have both NSW and VIC registered vehicles operating under the one umbrella to ensure no matter which side of the border you are, we will get you there," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We know Australia's regional areas are growing and with this comes demand for convenient, reliable and accessible transport."
Announcing the Albury-Wodonga fleet on Monday, Mr Hardeman said the Border service would include its "world-class technology and safety systems."
"We are positive our business will become an integral part of the local community thanks to the consistent, focused mindset 13cabs brings to local areas, Albury-Wodonga included," he said.
"We are now recruiting local drivers who know the region well and who are looking for flexible work with our trusted brand."
A big draw card for the younger demographic will be the option to pay for rides via the app, which includes an Apple Pay option.
Wodonga Taxis has a similar smartphone app, while across the Border Albury Taxis can be booked online through their website.
Albury Taxis and Wodonga Taxis were both contacted for comment but did not return phone calls.
The 13cabs service will pick-up passengers within a 10-kilometre radius from the city centre of both Albury and Wodonga.
Other companies such as Uber are not available on the Border. Other ride-sharing businesses have tried and failed to survive locally with My Country Taxi and Go Buggy launched in the cities, but no longer operating.
Those interested in becoming a 13cabs driver can attend training sessions at Quest Albury on November 21 at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm and November 22 at 9am.
