Jackson McEwan faced the Wodonga Magistrates Court late last week after being taken into custody.
The 29-year-old was withdrawing from drugs and highly agitated.
He allegedly attacked the police member with the tool and assaulted other officers last Tuesday and Wednesday.

He is also charged with entering the roof of a home, dangerous driving, making threats to kill, recklessly causing injury and trespassing, during incidents dating back to October 7.
The court heard he would have to show exceptional circumstances to be given bail, but he did not apply.
He will return to court next Tuesday.
