Cavallin played for six years in the Ovens and Murray league with Wangaratta before coaching Ovens and King league side King Valley to a flag.

The premiership coach has also played under former Firebirds' captain Natalie Behl (nee Sloane) in Kiama before her family returned to the area this year.

After joining Beechworth this season, Cavallin said she's looking forward to drawing on the knowledge past coaches have bestowed on her.

"She (Behl) has had a wealth of experience playing at national and international level," Cavallin said.

"She was really passionate about netball and I learnt heaps from her.

"Obviously in the O and M you're always playing some great teams and good players.

"I feel pretty lucky in the respect that I've had so many varying experiences as a player, as well as being coached by different people.

"I'm hoping I can draw on the knowledge I've picked up over my netball career."

Cavallin will be teaming up with this season's coach Coby Surrey, who will move into an assistant role.

Beechworth finished wooden spooners this season after winning one game against Wahgunyah, but Cavellin said she's excited by the attitude of the club's young talented players.

"I'm really looking forward to working with the young girls because they're really at the point where they want to develop their netball," Cavallin said.

"They're all on the same page in that they want to improve and see the club become more successful.

"That was part of the reason why I thought I wanted to be involved as coach.

"She (Surrey) has a great rapport with the girls and I'll come in with some different perspectives and ideas.

"We'll work well as a team."

Beechworth look likely to retain most of the team from this season and are also expecting some past players to return.

Informal pre-season training has commenced at the club on Thursdays.
