A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged after allegedly carjacking a taxi in Albury during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police said a taxi was called to a hotel on Young Street, Albury, about 1.50am on Sunday, where following an argument over directions, the taxi driver and passenger allegedly stepped outside the vehicle.
Police allege the passenger punched the taxi driver before stealing the taxi.
The taxi driver ran from the location and was able to flag down a passing police car.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced an investigation, locating the taxi on Wattletree Road, Lavington, shortly after.

The taxi driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the alleged assault.
Following police inquiries, a 47-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and taken to Albury Police Station.
He was charged with "take and drive a conveyance without consent" for allegedly taking the taxi and was granted conditional bail to appear before Albury Local Court on December 9.
