Trained at Corowa by Geoff Duryea, News Girl amassed $106,750 in prizemoney for the season with two wins and three placings from 10 starts.
News Girl stamped herself as a well above average filly after running second in the group three Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February.
Challenge Accepted also won the 3YO award for the Duryea stable in 2016-17.

"News Girl had a terrific season and it was pleasing to see it acknowledged at the awards night," Duryea said.
Duryea said News Girl was close to resuming and would likely head to Melbourne in around a fortnight to kick off her preparation.
"Unfortunately I don't think there will be too many suitable races for her to race locally," he said.
"I nominated her for a race at Gundagai last week and she received 63kg which included a 2kg allowance for being a mare.
"So we will head to Melbourne for one or two runs.
"The Country Championships qualifier in February could also be a possible target."
