Thursday night's round two and three of the AFL draft saw no players picked up from the North East, but several are still in with a chance to join a list.
Albury product Ben Kelly is one player hoping to hear his name read out, with Bushrangers' coach Mark Brown citing him as a chance alongside teammates Will Christie, Jimmy Boyer, Sam Durham and Will Chandler.
"There's no doubt Kelly will be well and truly in the mix," Brown said.
"Kelly and Will Christie are young developing talls and the strides they took as overage players as 19-year-olds was huge.
"They're both 200 plus centimeters. Will's very agile and follows the ground ball well and Kelly's got some real draft able traits with his top end speed and his kicking."
Henty brothers Nick and Sam Murray will also be watching the rookie draft closely as they face the potential of both landing a spot at an elite level.
It would mark Sam's second shot at an AFL career following a 12-month ASADA ban.
This year's draft was vastly different to that of last year's for the Bushrangers, who saw a number of young talented players join lists.
Ely Smith, Jacob Koschitzke, Mathew Walker, Finn O'Dwyer, Laitham Vandermeer and Jordon Butts found their way onto the elite stage.
Brown said aspiring players shouldn't be disheartened by not being picked up through the draft rounds, with plenty of other pathways now available to those who put in the work.
"There's more and more emphasis being placed on secondary competitions," Brown said.
"While it'll be disappointing if they don't get an opportunity, it's certainly not the end of the road.
"That's the joys and heartaches of the draft, you don't need eighteen clubs to like you, you just need one at the end of the day.
"There's some kids that could go either way in the rookie draft.
"Fingers crossed they get the opportunity, but if they don't, there's certainly other avenues to pursue in hopefully calving out an elite career now."
It has however been a fairytale week for Murray Bushrangers' co-captain Lachlan Ash, with the son of Albury Tigers premiership player Stephen Ash being picked up by Greater Western Sydney during the first round of selections.
