Yesterday's event was the biggest the turf club has ever hosted with more than 10,000 race-goers through the gates and lining the marquees along the lawns.
And although the Wodonga and District Turf Club say the annual event is a race meeting first and foremost, fashion and entertainment is what the majority of the crowd were after.
One of the major draw cards was Australian band Birds of Tokyo who finished off the day with race goers staying around after the last race to rock out on the lawns.
But for Wodonga's Claudia Mirtschin the race day was the perfect opportunity to show off her designs.
The seamstress, who insists it is "just a hobby", wore a vintage design dress with her friend Katie Parslow wearing a silk mini dress also made by Ms Mirtschin.
"I have actually had so many nice comments on my dress and head piece and it is really nice to see other people appreciating your work," she said.
"I am really a third generation seamstress as my nan worked in a clothes factory and my mum used to make dresses as well." Fashions on the Field Lady of the Day Tayla Johnson said fashion "doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg".
"My dress I picked up at an op-shop in Leeton, NSW and I think it just goes to show you don't have to spend a lot of money to look good," she said.
"It is really exciting, people put a lot of time and effort into dressing up and coming to the races so it is nice to be chosen as the winner today.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"My hat is also vintage so really went with that vintage theme and I guess it paid off.
"Fashion is a major part of the gold cup and its great to see so many women and men put in effort and get up there and show off their creations.
"It is also so lovely to see so many local businesses being supported this year."
One woman gave a shout out to the Buy From The Bush online campaign which helps highlight rural businesses doing it tough during the drought.
Apart from the confident fashionistas on the cat-walk plenty of other race-goers stood out with the weird and wacky outfits that only the races could bring.
Police and security were out in force during the day with people retreating to the shade for most of the day with temperatures soaring to the high 30s.
Bright, spring-inspired colours, hand-made creations and op-shop bargains were the pick of the day at the Quest Wodonga Fashions on the Field.
The fashion runway at the Wodonga Gold Cup yesterday saw more than 60 race-goers enter their suits, frocks and head pieces into the competition.
The Lady of the Day was Albury's Tayla Johnson who picked up her floral number for just $10 at an op shop in Leeton.
She took home more than $6000 in prizes all from local businesses.
Judge Rachel Alexander from Skin Logics Ella Bache said Ms Johnson's piece "stood out straight away".
"The way it had been styled with all the appropriate accessories as well as the originality of the whole outfit is what stood out to us," she said.
"It was the winner right across the board and not a very hard decision in the end."
The Gentleman of the day went to Tumut's Jeff Hanson who was a crowd favourite with his hat and umbrella accessories.
The Millinery of the Day went to Erica Davis from Wagga with judges describing the head piece as "classic and very unique".
Both section winners took home more than $3000 in prizes.
Felicity Cahill was also picked out of audience as the crowd favourite.
