The event was staged on a brand new course at Ebden Reserve, with triathletes overcoming cold temperatures and high winds to complete the challenge.

Competitors were sent onto the course in waves based on alphabetical order, with more than 20 in each group.

Event organiser Nadia Mellor was delighted with the response to the event.

"It was exceptional. Considering the cold weather and the wind, the numbers were really great," Mellor said.

"Thankfully the rain stayed away.

"We got another 20 entries on the day itself, so women were prepared to test themselves in trying conditions.

"It's not the most entries we've had, but it was one of our bigger ones."

Mellor added the new course was well received and complemented the event nicely.

"It worked exceptionally well. It was a safer course for the inexperienced triathletes," she said.

"It was all off-road and away from the traffic on a sealed bike path.

"I'd like to thank Wodonga Council once again for sealing that path."

AWTC is hopeful of attracting plenty of new faces to future events on this season's calendar.

"There are a number of aquathlons, mini triathlon and longer distance (sprint and Olympic distance) triathlons coming up for the rest of the season," Mellor added.

"A number of women have already asked if they can do the other events and how can they be involved.

"We're hoping it will lead to further participation in the sport."

The first aquathlon (500m swim a 3km run) will be held at Lavington Swim Centre on Wednesday, December 11 at 6.30pm, with registrations from 5.30pm.

Mini, sprint and Olympic distance triathlons will also be offered throughout the summer at Allan's Flat.

The first is set to be staged on Sunday, December 15, at 8am.

"Sprint triathlons are a 500m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run, which are achievable distances for these women," Mellor said.

A considerable donation will be made to the Centre Against Violence from the event's proceeds.
