People are her passion, and Mrs Pitman will be among both friends and clients when she leads a 45th anniversary event for the Scout Group on Sunday.
Mrs Pitman had just moved to Howlong 45 years ago when community members gathered to form the branch.
"On December 8, 1974, at the Mechanics' Institute, the scouts and cubs were established," she said.
"In Hamilton I was also a scout leader.
"My husband got work in Howlong so we moved here, and only a couple days after we arrived John Milton came over and said, 'I hear you're a cub leader - we need one'."
Mrs Pitman is the only club leader who has remained throughout the 45 years.
In that time, she's mentored 600 youth members who were cubs, scouts and venturers, with sons of original cubs coming through.
As a celebrant, she has even married 10 members, including one of her 'grandchildren' cubs.
"This is my 11th year as a celebrant; my dad actually suggested I become a celebrant," she said.
"I love things like weddings and I love people."
Howlong's Greg Gardiner is among the scout members who have been married by Mrs Pitman.
"I started with Howlong Scouts as an eight-year-old," he said.
"I enjoyed learning different life skills; I can still remember learning how to tie knots.
"I've known Sheryl all my life, so when it was time to get married, she was the obvious choice for celebrant."
Mrs Pitman has been a scout leader for "51.38 years", when considering her time in Hamilton.
"I was also in girl guides and I was always going to get in touch with Howlong Scouts upon moving here, but they got to me first," she said.
"There's been a lot of changes and we're about to go under another big change in scouting in the badge-work.
"A lot of it now does involve computers.
"I'll meet them once a week and some of the things we've done are cooking classes and teaching one cub how to play bagpipes - we even played Laser Tag the other week."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mrs Pitman is holding an event at the Howlong Golf Resort from 12.30pm on Sunday to mark the 45th anniversary.
"I've held an event for the 25th anniversary, but this will be more low-key," she said.
"We'd love to see any past or current members there."
