Murray and younger brother Nick joined Williamstown on Sunday with all VFL players required to nominate another club where they can play if needed.
"Nothing's locked in yet, but obviously Daryn (Cresswell, Rovers' coach) and I have an incredible relationship as friends, family and as coach and player," he said.

"The chances are I will probably have a really good chat with him and pursue that but, at the same time, there's been nothing decided.
"If all things go to plan I would love to play under Daryn again."
The 22-year-old indicated his sibling would also look to nominate Rovers as his second club.
Nick Murray spent time under Cresswell last season while not playing for GWS at NEAFL level, while Sam shot to prominence under the ex-Sydney Swans' best and fairest as a teenager at Wodonga Raiders in 2015.
Murray finished third in the Morris Medal, only three votes behind Albury's Joel Mackie.
It led to a two-year stint with the Swans before he was traded to Collingwood.
Murray isn't eligible to play again until February 17 when his 18-month ban ends for cocaine being detected in his system for a match-day test.

He says Cresswell has been one of his confidantes.
"I'm always going to keep in close contact with him, I have the utmost respect for him as an individual, but also a coach," Murray offered.
