Creating four villas has been a "labour of love" for Melbourne developers Michael and Michele Hepburn, who grew up in the North East.
The couple's $2 million investment, on a 6400-square metre block at 205 Main Street, has been in the making since 2017.
Basq Stays has one, two and three bedroom villas, each containing a fireplace, a full kitchen, and ensuites for each bedroom.
With four self-contained villas and a barbecue area, groups of up to 18 people can be accommodated.
Mrs Hepburn said the concept aimed to foster interaction between guests.
"[In a motel setting] there just isn't the facility to hang out and have an after-dinner drink, play a game or have general chit-chat in a comfortable environment," she said.
"Basq Stays can do all of that.
"We modelled it on our own experiences of having more fun when we travel with other couples."
