Michael Deslandes, 37, was released from custody in Wodonga on Monday after magistrate Peter Dunn bailed him on several conditions.
They included that he pay a $15,000 surety, reside at his Cambourne Park home in southern Wodonga and report to the city's police every Wednesday.
Deslandes was also ordered to surrender travel documents and only associate with his co-accused at his workplace.
The group allegedly abducted the boy in Wodonga and then drove him to a state forest near Yackandandah.
The court heard Deslandes allegedly repeatedly hit the teen in the body, throat and head and the boy was also forced to strip naked.
Bars were heated up with a blowtorch and then used to hit the 17 year-old, it was alleged.
Before being driven back to Wodonga, the teen was allegedly threatened with having his penis cut off and mother killed if he didn't say where motorbikes, he was accused of stealing, were located.
A gun was also reported to have been used in the attack which allegedly occurred over two-and-a-half hours.
Police had opposed Deslandes being granted bail, with a detective saying the victim was "extremely fearful".
The court heard Deslandes had no prior offences and was the father of a baby.
Mr Dunn, who was on videolink from Wangaratta Magistrates Court, ordered Deslandes to return to Wodonga Court on March 12.
