It's been a huge year for Boulton who recently took out two titles at the Australian All Schools Championships in Perth, setting a new Australian record in the 400m with a time of 48.04.
Just five days later the rising sprint star from Wangaratta went one better, finishing with a time of 47.99 at an event in Brisbane.
"After Perth we went on a holiday to the Gold Coast and dad asked if I wanted to go to Brisbane to run their shield meet," Boulton said.
"I was racing against Alex Beck, he's represented Australia and was two lanes ahead of me.

"He ran hard and I just told myself to chase him and we had a good chat afterwards.
"He got me by about three metres."
Boulton's now aiming to qualify for next year's world juniors in the under-20's.
The speedy youngster first started running in the under-10's category after moving to Wangaratta with his family from Melbourne and has gone on to win 16 national medals since he was in grade four.
Boulton said his dad has played a significant role in his love of the sport, doubling as his coach.
Jason, a former runner himself, said he's seen his son come along in leaps and bounds in the past 12-months.
"This year has been a big learning curve for him and his performances have shown that," Jason said.
Boulton also likes to hit the footy field, playing in the junior league as well as playing three games for Wangaratta Rovers last season.
While he enjoys running the 200m event, Boulton said the challenge of the 400m remains his favourite.
"I only started running fast fours this season, I try to go hard for the first 250m, rest coming into the straight and then sprint home," Boulton said.
"It's not more enjoyable because it hurts, but it's fun.
"I enjoy running in front of a crowd, the atmosphere is good and it makes me run faster."
