STAY SAFE
State of disaster declared in Towong, Alpine, Wangaratta and Mansfield Shires
To be honest, all plans are flexible this weekend as the fire emergency continues to grip the Border and North East. Saturday's weather conditions will be particularly challenging, with Upper Murray residents urged to evacuate beforehand. Arrangements for some events, such as the Wangaratta Rodeo and Cricket Albury-Wodonga's junior country week cricket have already been affected while other changes could occur at any time. Everyone is encouraged to remain alert, stay up to date with the situation around them and look after each other.

MARKET MOVE
On The Border Community Market, Junction Square, Wodonga, Sunday, January 5, 8am to noon
The first On The Border Community Market for 2020, as well as the February event, will start an hour earlier than previous markets to allow for the summer heat. Organisers say any decision to cancel owing to smoke will not be made until late Saturday or early Sunday, with a fire appeal stall also planned. Scheduled items for sale include baby clothes, jewellery, purses, handmade dolls and animals, pet treats, dummy clips, teethers and headbands. There will be live music and refreshments for sale. The boutique markets were started in 2017 by two friends who wanted to feature a diverse range of handmade products.
FUNKY TOWN
Pseudo Echo, SS&A Club, Albury, Saturday, January 4, from 9pm
A band that captured the look and sound of the 1980s will bring its best-known hits to Albury tonight. Pseudo Echo's top 10 songs include Listening, A Beat for You, Don't Go, Love An Adventure and Living in a Dream. The remake of Funky Town spent 12 weeks as number 1 in Australia from December 1986, also reaching number 6 in the US and 8 in Britain. The band's latest release is an electro-funk-rock version of the 1970s classic Nutbush City Limits.
VINYL HIGHLIGHTS
Grooveyard Hammond Combo, Commercial Club Albury, Saturday, January 4, 8.30pm
This four-piece electric and acoustic band offers the best bits from everyone's vinyl collection. Band members Caz Higgs, Phillip Stone, Graeme Cook and Kevin McGrath create their distinct sound with guitars, percussion, ukulele, Hammond organ, accordion, trumpet, trombone and vocals. The group aims for engaging and entertaining music.
JUNIOR CONTEST
Cricket Albury Wodonga junior country cricket week, various locations, Sunday, January 5
Saturday's weather forecast led to a fixture change in the junior cricket carnival. Cricket Albury-Wodonga announced all under-14, under-15, under-16 and under-17 games scheduled for that day would be called off and declared as draws. The under-12 and under-13 matches have been re-scheduled to Sunday. The annual competition features teams from Albury-Wodonga, Wangaratta, Wagga, the North East and Hume.
BRIGADE SUPPORT
Albury Wodonga Farmers Market, Gateway Village, Wodonga, Saturday, January 4, 8am to noon
The weekly farmers market will go ahead as planned so fresh produce grown by the stall holders is not wasted. Donation buckets will be placed at the entry, with all proceeds going to support the Country Fire Authority and Rural Fire Service.
