To complement The Border Mail's Summer Reads series, online video show Town Crier asked people on the streets of Albury and Wodonga about their favourite or most influential books.
The suggestions included the Harry Potter series, true crime murder cases, Call of the Reed Warbler by Charles Massy and Bruce Pascoe's Dark Emu.
Janet said she shared a number of different books with her six-year-old daughter.
"They're all about just being confident, being different and just being kind," she said.
"Because at that age we're teaching them to be social and things like that and just accepting others for who they are."

Jacob nominated The Road Less Travelled (M. Scott Peck) as "a good book all round".
"It's just, like, a book about life and it just taught me a lot of things about myself and other people," he said.
Michael couldn't go past the Bible.
"It's been part of my life, I've learned from it from an early age," he said.
One interviewee, Matt, suggested The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F--- by Mark Manson, coincidentally also the choice of Border Mail editor Xavier Mardling.
"If you haven't read it, read it because it's an awesome book," Matt told Town Crier.
