Thanks for the magic
I want to give a big shout out and huge thank you to those magnificent families, who take the time, effort and great expense to decorate their homes with incredible lights to bring the magic of Christmas to the public. So many Albury and local families take the Christmas light drive which brings great joy and delight to young and old.

Hewson's resentment
I write in response to Dr Hewson's article ('Hard slogans don't speak of a strong leader', The Border Mail, January 10). I was taken aback by Dr Hewson's obvious disrespect for Scott Morrison as our elected Prime Minister, implying that our PM has been "playing a very cynical political game ".
The comments made by Dr Hewson, a former Liberal leader - and widely accepted as being an abject failure in that role having lost the unlosable election in 1993, to now criticise our PM for his lack of leadership - "when the imperative is for national leadership". This coming from a doctor of economics who, when he was leader of the Liberal Party, was unable to explain how his GST would apply to a birthday cake.
Anyone is entitled to criticise an elected MP including Scott Morrison. You only have to listen to social media which has been providing that platform during this fire crisis, however the tone of Dr Hewson's article was clearly attempting to play the man and attempts to downgrade the PM's education and experience by referring to the PM in the belittling term as "Scott from marketing".
Dr Hewson ignores that our PM has excelled in three of the most senior federal ministries - Minister for Immigration and Border Protection (stopping the boats), Minister for Social Services and Federal Treasurer. Most Australians understand the many factors which have resulted in the current fire crisis however the left and activist groups (Dr Hewson is clearly on their bandwagon) will take any opportunity to distort the truth and the push their crusade.
Contrary to Dr Hewson's accusation, our PM has shown real leadership since returning from a short but well earned holiday with his family in mid-December and has not stopped working visiting the various fire areas and giving almost daily press conferences whilst still attending to matters of state including the serious Iran issue.
It is widely acknowledged that Dr Hewson has been a regular critic of the Liberals and the Coalition. It seems he still harbours much resentment, particularly towards John Howard and now our PM after he was dumped because he was a failed leader. The precursor to Malcolm Turnbull? One can only speculate what the good doctor is teaching his young students at ANU.
