Joshua Allan Biggs, holding a large kitchen knife and a meat cleaver, said he was "gunna kill you all" and that "I'm not dying by myself".

Magistrate Richard Funston said it would have been "a very frightening incident" for the victims.

"I thought that if I had been in that room at that time I would have been absolutely terrified," he said in Albury Local Court.

Biggs repeatedly pleaded, via a video link to jail, to be sentenced immediately.

But Mr Funston was having none of it, instead ordering a report from NSW Justice Health on Biggs as to "why there was such serious and undeniably terrifying behaviour".

He said it might well be there were special circumstances to be into account in sentencing Biggs that otherwise would be impossible to uncover.

After one interruption from Biggs asking to be sentenced, Mr Funston said: "I'm not going to be railroaded by anybody."

Mr Funston said such a report could, for example, allow Biggs to get parole "at an earlier date" than would otherwise be the case.

"It may be in your favour," he said.

"It will certainly be in the community's favour. I can't see why we have to rush the matter through."

Defence lawyer Bronte Winn said Biggs had been of the view that late afternoon in early January that "people were coming to the house so he armed himself to protect himself".

Ms Winn said Biggs was well-affected by "ice".

Mr Funston said what made Biggs' actions even more serious was the fact he was on an intensive corrections order for other "serious matters".

His release date now for a breach of that order is June 13.

Biggs pleaded guilty this week to charges of destroy or damage property, use an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence and stalking or intimidation.

The court was told that Biggs, who had a "lengthy criminal history" for violence, had not long been released from jail when he, his mother and brother went to her rented house in Valverde Court, Thurgoona, on January 3 about 4pm.

Biggs was behaving in an "erratic" and "paranoid" manner.

"He was speaking of people coming to get him, people hacking his phone, people were going to run through his house," police said.

Biggs was also worried about cars traveling past the house. In response, his mother told him several times to go to bed.

But instead, Biggs armed himself with a pillow case that he tied-off after filling it with pool balls.

He walked to the front of the house and yelled "come on ya mother f ... ers", then swung the bag of pool balls at a side metal fence, leaving a large dent.

Biggs returned inside, grabbed the knife with a 20-centimetre blade and cleaver with a 15-centimetre blade and told his mother and brother: "You ... aren't going anywhere".

Biggs's mother phoned the accused's step-brother and his partner to warn them not to come to the house, but at 5pm they arrived.

The step-brother tried to pacify Biggs, who threatened: "I'm gunna kill you all."

Soon after, he tackled then restrained Biggs, assisted by his partner.

Biggs will be sentenced on March 2.
