In a statement to The Border Mail a spokesperson said emergency services were called to Alemein Avenue just after 4pm following an assault.
"Officers from the Murray River Police District attended and found a 56-year-old man with a wound to his hand.
"He was taken to Albury hospital where he has undergone surgery.
"His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
"Police have been told the man was wounded by a person riding an unregistered trail bike and inquiries continue to locate those responsible."
EARLIER: A man is in a serious condition in hospital after allegedly being stabbed outside North Albury sports ground this afternoon.
NSW Ambulance confirmed a man was treated at the scene just after 4pm on the corner of Wantigong Street and Alemein Avenue.
"One crew was sent to the scene where they treated a man for a large laceration to his hand," a spokesman said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"He was taken to Albury Base Hospital where he is currently in a serious but stable condition."
NSW Police could not confirm any details when questioned by The Border Mail but some of the intersection was cordoned off for two hours.
The road is now clear.
