But the long-standing Albury business is being taken over by another local couple keen to continue on the success of the bookstore.
Judith Doughty and David Lewis will hand over the keys to the Myer Centrepoint shop to Heather and Andrew Cirovic on Friday, January 24.
The Cirovics will take over management and retain all staff, stating their "passion for books" was impressive.
"We have always dreamed of owning a bookstore and jumped at the opportunity when the business was put up for sale," Mrs Cirovic said.
"We are both avid readers and have been Dymocks customers for a long time.
"So this felt like the perfect opportunity for us.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We were really impressed with the staff, their passion for books and their dedication to helping customers find their next great read.
"We wanted to retain their knowledge, expertise and high level of customer service."
The new owners bring with them years of experience in both finance and literacy.
Mr Cirovic's background is in finance while his wife is a keen advocate for children's literacy and education having been a teacher for 32 years.
"I am looking forward to helping nurture young readers in the local community," Mrs Cirovic said.
"I know the life-changing impact that the right book can have on a child.
"And I'm excited to help local kids develop a lifelong love of reading."
The couple are passionate about their local community and will be supporting the company's bushfire appeal.
"One of the initiatives we are currently supporting is the Dymocks Children's Charities Bushfires Appeal," Mrs Cirovic said.
"This will help put books back into the hands of children who have been impacted by bushfires locally.
"We're encouraging all our customers to support this fundraising effort."
Dymocks is the only new bookstore left standing in the twin cities after The Book Grocer and Splendid Books closed in 2019.
The bookstore started in Dean Street in 1992 and remained for 22 years before making the move to its current location, just around the corner in Olive Street to the old Jack's Country Clothing store, in 2014.
All regular in-store events and promotions, including the popular monthly book club, will continue under the new ownership.
