Showers and thunderstorms were expected to hit the region late Sunday and into Monday, leading to warnings of possible rapid river rises and localised flooding.
Locations put on watch included the Upper Murray and Tooma rivers, Corryong and Cudgewa creeks, parts of the Upper Mitta Mitta River, and fire affected areas of the Buckland and Buffalo rivers.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Anyone located in, or are returning to, bushfire affected areas has been warned to be aware of any rapid river rises.
The BOM said this could result from bushfires causing changes in soil and loss of plants, which cause more water to run downhill and into riverbeds and streams.
Floodwater may contain large amounts of dangerous debris including large rocks, trees and plants.
