The co-star of the Heath and Normy breakfast show was chosen as best newcomer on air in the provincial category of the awards, which were presented on the Gold Coast on Saturday night.
Dorrell debuted on Star FM earlier this year with his offsider Heath Piper.
The pair moved from Sydney to host the show after working with Triple M radio.
Dorrell has a background in advertising, having written copy for companies such as the Commonwealth Bank.
Other award winners that can be heard on the Border include Jules Lund (best newcomer — metropolitan) whose syndicated drive show is on Star FM and Neil Mitchell (best talk presenter — metropolitan) who airs on 2AY with his Melbourne-based talk show.
Justin Smith, a former Border radio breakfast announcer, won the prize for best producer of a talk-current affairs show for his work with Mitchell.
