Bruce Diffey was recognised at the Australia Day ceremony at Culcairn, for his firefighting, donation of his machinery for community use and financial assistance to town projects.
But Mr Diffey is known by most as a gun bowler and is associated with Henty's golf, cricket, football, swimming pool and scout organisations.
The bowling club congratulated Mr Diffey, posting "thank you from all of us for the tireless hours you put into the club greens ... and you are such a great person to go with it".
Maddison Doughty was named Young Citizen of the Year, who at age 16 has already volunteered more than 200 hours with St John Ambulance.
Maddison received a Life Saving Award alongside her team members in 2018 after they performed early intervention on a woman having a heart attack at a cycling event, setting her up for a full recovery.
Henty youngsters Chayse Montgomery, Ryan Klemke, Ashton Scholz and Darcy Doughty were the pick for the Mayoral Award for Outstanding Achievement for raising $10,000 over 12 months for Mission Australia, in light of homelessness they witnessed in Melbourne.
Adding to a number of community events, the Henty Public School students created a range of clothing with the CRAD logo (the initials of their names) on them which they sold to raise the money.
"It created awareness for Mission Australia and homelessness as well," Ryan's mum Debbie Klemke told The Border Mail last year.
"People were wearing the t-shirts in Japan and the UK.
"People will still put their hands in their pockets for a cause even if they are struggling themselves."
The sporting theme resumed later in the awards with polocrosse champion Lucy Grills named the Sports Person of the Year.
Ms Grills says helping girls "find ways to navigate" society's pressures about how they should look and feel was the motivation behind developing Polocrosse365, a three-day workshop.
The Walbundrie Cricket Club Pink Stumps day, which Glenn McGrath attended in February last year and raised just over $28,000 for his breast cancer charity, was joint winner of the Community Event Award with the Walla Walla 150th Anniversary celebrations.
