Wangaratta doctor Warren Garrett has been named the city's citizen of the year after helping to shape the area in a wide range of roles.

Dr Garrett has been involved in the building of many Wangaratta schools and the council offices.
He has also contributed to the region through his work with the RSL and Probus Club.
Hayden Sampson, 16, who overcame testicular cancer at a young age and helped raise $23,000 for the cause, was also named the city's young citizen of the year.
Madelynn Baumanis was a finalist in the award due to her work advocating for mental health and suicide prevention programs.
Deputy Mayor Dave Fuller said there were 16 Australia Day events held across towns in the region, with up to 500 in attendance in Wangaratta on Sunday.

"People really embrace Australia Day," he said.
"I was at the event in Murmungee, which is a really small community, but there were 60 people there.
"So that's a really big turnout."
The Wangaratta event saw 26 new citizens welcomed to the area, with live music and a barbecue breakfast for attendees.
"It's great to see people coming together," Cr Fuller said.
"People who might be isolated can be a part of their communities."
Like many Australia Day events, Cr Fuller said the recent bushfires were front of mind for attendees.
The Carboor event had to be cancelled due to the fire threat.
