Burger Urge officially opens in Wodonga today after more than three months of construction to the purpose-built Mann Central shopping centre store.
The restaurant on the corner of High Street and Elgin Boulevard is the first Victorian site for the largely Queensland-based franchise.
Owner Greg Dean told The Border Mail despite delays in the build they are ready to open to the public.
"We just had a few little set backs with the initial build which delayed our opening date," he said.
"We had to work through a couple of things and then with the Christmas break in the middle it slowed up a bit.
"But the restaurant and our staff are ready to go after having a few training runs over the weekend."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Dean said the business had hired 31 local employees and put them through their paces during two "training runs" on Saturday and Sunday.
The staff, who are trained as "all-rounders", cooked and served each other on Saturday, while on Sunday family and friends were invited for dinner to test staff during a busy period.
"These test runs are so important," Mr Dean said.
"It was about getting the feel for the proper dinner-time rush and dealing with whatever comes through the kitchen.
"I am super happy with how it panned out, we got a lot of positive feedback.
"We still have a lot to learn but we have a great team and they did really well.
"They are all super excited and keen to open to the Border community."
The restaurant will be open in time for lunch today and will be open seven days a week.
"We are still working out how our opening hours will look because they will probably change based on the demand from customers," Mr Dean said.
"But we are definitely open seven days and for lunch and dinner."
Their menu, which is available online, boasts beef, chicken, vegetarian and vegan burger options as well as salads, a children's menu and snack options. The restaurant is also fully licensed.
Mr Dean and his wife Nicole moved back to the area 12 months ago after operating a Hog's Breath restaurant in Port Macquarie.
