Ruth Dunn is instructing her first class at the Jindera pool on Wednesday afternoon after being trained by fellow volunteer class leader Colleen Lord.
"I used to run exercises at Culcairn and Walla when I retired from school teaching," she said.
"I taught the land exercises at Culcairn for five years, and when we moved to Jindera two years ago, Colleen asked if I'd consider being trained in aqua.
"People don't need to be able to swim to join this class and everyone can work at their own pace and fitness level.
"Everyone is welcome to come and join in, the class is for all ages."
Murrumbidgee Local Health District supports volunteers across a number of communities to provide low-cost activities.
MLHD health promotion officer Adelle Kennedy said fitness activities in the water were good options for anybody, but particularly people with chronic conditions.
"Exercising in the water provides all the benefits of regular exercise, however, as the body is supported by water, there's less risk of muscle or joint injury during the exercises," she said.
"Participants can achieve a greater range of motion in water and become fitter faster.
"It is easy and fun to learn.
"It can be beneficial for all including people with arthritis, back pain, balance and joint problems and for those who've had joint replacements."
Mrs Lord said the new Aqua class added to a gentle exercise session that ran out of the community hub at Jindera.

"That will give us two programs during the week on two different days; it's great," she said.
The classes will be run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3.30pm at the Jindera Pool during Summer.
Participants are asked to bring a gold coin for each session, and if they have one, a foam pool noodle.
