Christie will move to the city for university in coming weeks with the 201-centimetre 19-year-old nominating Bell Park as his second club.

"I don't have too many expectations," Christie said.

"Playing a few VFL games would definitely be nice, however, with the talls Geelong has on its AFL list a lot of them will drop back into the VFL 22.

"So I want to apply myself at local level and contribute each week and start from there."

Christie, who attracted some interest from AFL clubs ahead of the draft, said it was difficult to depart W.J. Findlay Oval after splitting his time between the Hawks and Murray Bushrangers in recent seasons.

"I've nominated Bell Park, which was a long process obviously not knowing anyone down there, but for my football playing locally down there was the best fit with VFL commitments as great as it would have been travelling back to Rovers," he said.

"'Cressa' (Daryn Cresswell) and Barry Sullivan have been great through the process and I've still been training with them which has been really good."

Christie said Geelong coach Shane O'Bree had made the transition from the Ovens and Murray to VFL easier.

"Shane O'Bree has been very approachable, along with the rest of the staff," he said.

"I'm still commuting down to training from Wangaratta so they've been very accommodating all the way through so far.

"It'll certainly be a lot easier once I've moved down there full time so I'm looking forward to it."
