Sexton will lead the competition into battle against arch rivals Goulburn Valley on May 23.
The former Pigeon premiership star takes over the top job from Brad Murray and Jon Henry.
Sexton has spent the past three years coaching Yarrawonga and is looking forward to returning to representative football.

O and M general manager Sean Barrett is thrilled to announce Sexton as coach.
"We'll miss having John and Brad involved, they've been great supporters of our inter-league and done a fantastic job over the past few years," he said.
"Having said that, we're extremely excited to have Damian lead the team against our traditional rivals.
"He's been a stalwart of our competition and representative footy throughout his career."
Darren Hovey will continue to lead the underage O and M squad for the third successive year, with the league keen to build on last year's success against the Mornington Peninsula.
