Riverina Highlands Rural Fire Service announced on Sunday night that the fire, which had destroyed houses, farms and timber plantations, had changed status.
"Official: Dunns Road Fire is now at Contained Status," the RFS posted on Facebook.
"Well done to all the persons involved in this fire fight. Now to work on turning it to out."
The fire started on December 28 between Tarcutta and Adelong from a suspected lightning strike and burned south during strong winds around New Year's Eve.
The bushfire threatened towns including Adelong, Talbingo, Tumbarumba and Batlow on multiple occaisions over subsequent weeks.
IN OTHER NEWS:
RFS spokesman Greg Allan said 50 firefighters, 20 vehicles and 11 aircraft were still working on the bushfire.
"The immediate threat is no longer there and hasn't been for some time while it has been listed at the 'advice' level," he said.
"The fire is contained. It has burned through more than 330,000 hectares and although it is contained we still have crews continuing to mop up and black out and look for any hot spots.
"Within those containment lines there will still be some fire activity but when we are saying it is contained at this point there is no chance of the fire spreading."
Mr Allan said easterly winds should bring rainfall across NSW from Tuesday and would hopefully assist in putting the fire out.
The devastation to the region's timber, fruit growing and tourism industries prompted a visit last month by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to Batlow and Tumbarumba.
