Wodonga police found a 43-year-old man with a serious head injury lying in the driveway of a Ritter Road property on Thursday night.
Kenneth Hayden Morgan, 25, was arrested in the rear yard of the premises and was charged with recklessly cause serious injury, intentionally cause serious injury and assault with a weapon.
Morgan appeared in custody at Wodonga Court on Friday morning before a Shepparton Magistrate on video-link.
His defence lawyer did not apply for bail and the case will return to court next Thursday.

Wodonga Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after finding a 43-year-old with a serious head injury lying in a driveway.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The victim was conveyed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," a Victoria Police statement said.
"A 25-year-old man was arrested in the rear yard of the premises and has been charged with recklessly cause serious injury, intentionally cause serious injury and assault with a weapon."
The man has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Wodonga Magistrates Court later this morning.
