The state of the court, which has numerous large cracks, prompted the club to approach Wodonga Council for additional funding for a major overhaul mid-way through last year.
But council has confirmed project delays with the court to undergo resurfacing rather than the intended reconstruction.
"Officers have been working with the club regarding the scope of works which has been recently finalised," Wodonga Council chief executive Mark Dixon said.
"Following investigations into the site and proposed works, several options were put forward.
"In order to meet budget and timeframes, a decision has been made to undertake resurfacing works rather than a full reconstruction at this time.
"Works to resurface the courts are due to start soon and are due to be completed before the start of the season, subject to weather."
The Bulldogs play their first home match on Good Friday, April 10.
The project had a budget of $50,000 with $25,000 coming from the council and the club and resulted from the budget submission process last year.
It's understood the reconstruction works would have cost more than $70,000.
Former Indi MP Cathy McGowan complained to the Auditor-General soon after the funding announcement in the lead-up to last year's federal election about politicising taxpayer-funded grants.
