Food to nourish the body and the soul

Food is a huge part of the day for those living in aged care residences. A dining experience can feel warm and wholesome, or disappointing and unsatisfying.

Lutheran Aged Care strives every mealtime to create both an ambience and a menu that is nourishing, attractive and has that all important "X factor" of leaving one feeling satisfied and having enjoyed the meal experience.

The Maggie Beer Kitchen Garden provides residents and staff serving the meals with a connection to the food on the plates. Residents, with the help of staff and volunteers, are actively involved in planting vegetables and herbs for use in the kitchens. The garden has provided inspiration for some staff to become members of the Maggie Beer Foundation, which is actively working to improve the delivery of food services in aged care.

Residents have opportunities to showcase their own baking skills through involvement in cooking club, one of our many lifestyle activities centred around food.

An electronic kitchen management system, where residents and their guests can select their menu preferences in advance, assists Lutheran Aged Care to provide more choice for our residents and they are able to both select and see what they have ordered for the coming week. Menus are designed around the seasons with resident and dietician input focusing on nutritional value, flavour and the joy of eating.

Home-cooked food has always been a goal, so production kitchens in each residence has been a priority.

Clarries Café at Dellacourt provides a relaxing, informal space for staff, residents and visitors to enjoy delicious food and great coffee.
