The former Murray United junior mentor will enter his first senior role this season after replacing Matt Maw in the top job.
Key losses at both ends of the park in centre back Tylar Young, who has moved to Melbourne to pursue his VFL career with Frankston, and Isaac Read, who has signed with NPL outfit Port Melbourne Sharks, will be tough to replace, but Piltz has been happy thus far.
He believes Wangaratta will again be the team to beat, with Boomers and Albury United also around the mark.
"I've lost a bit, but I've picked up a couple of young fellas, so the depth isn't too bad either," Piltz said.

"If I get a couple of injuries, I've got a good couple of young fellas that deserve senior time as well."
He expects there will be plenty of player movement across the league in the next fortnight.
"Registration only opened on Tuesday and several guys have been training at clubs, so you're not going to know until you see some regos come in," he said.
"I know there's Murray United kids that are trialling at GV (Goulburn Valley Suns), so we'll see what happens with them and if they start shopping around.
"One or two players might be fringe players and see themselves above that and possibly go to another club to guarantee a senior spot.
"In saying that, they're all mates and want to play together as well."
