And the worst part is, Wodonga detectives believe the offender could be a local.
Wodonga Detective Sergeant Graeme Simpfendorfer said they have released CCTV footage of the incident hoping the community can help.
"On Friday, January 3 we can see on this footage one person has broken in via the roof targeting high end whisky off the shelves," he said.
"They haven't activated any alarms and it shows they have intimate knowledge of the premises and in particular what they were targeting."
The offender can be seen entering the store from the roof and standing on the shelf while carefully selecting which bottles to take.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said police believe the timing of the crime meant it was a targeted burglary.
"We have been a bit disgusted by this particular crime at that time, the next day things really changed up there for everyone," he said.
"We do believe this was a targeted theft for the vulnerability at the time.
"It is highly likely that this could be a local involved, which makes this even worse.
"We are reaching out to the community who may be offered this particular product for sale or know someone who has come into a significant amount of whisky."
The offender was in an out of the store within five minutes.
